ABOUT ME

Murphy Cross is a Tony Award winning director/co-creator/producer for JAY JOHNSON: THE TWO AND ONLY! She has choreographed for John Travolta, Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke, Garry Shandling, Howie Mandel and Little Richard, to name a few. For the theatre she has choreographed ANNIE GET YOUR GUN starring Donna MacKechnie, THE CRADLE WILL ROCK, THE ALL NIGHT STRUT, ANYTHING GOES, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, FORUM and OH, COWARD! among others. For TV she has choreographed ROSEANNE, SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH, COACH, IT'S GARRY SHANDLING'S SHOW, THE HOWIE MANDEL SUMMER SPECIAL, DEADWOOD and more. 
As an actress, Murphy is a Broadway alumna of A CHORUS LINE, BUBBLING BROWN SUGAR, PAL JOEY and DIVISION STREET. She was a Boylan Sister in the film ANNIE and a fact checker for John Travolta in the movie PERFECT. Throughout her career she has guested on many TV shows and appeared in many commercials.

Murphy holds a BFA in Dance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She has recently been seen dancing in CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND, honoring Bill Pullman in a FUNNY OR DIE piece about National Parks and as a horrible mother of a serial killer on CRIMINAL MINDS.

She loves singing harmony with her two fabulous daughters in an a capella group, MAMA. And she is a proud performer in the Mother's Day shows at the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB)  LA, THOSE MAGNIFICENT MOMS.

Career highlights include playing Louie's blind blind-date in TAXI, singing and dancing with the great Peter Allen in his Australian production of UP IN ONE, being wooed by both Sam and Coach in the first season of CHEERS, directing the award winning short film BLINDERS, and playing Phyl, a runner who secretly marries a Russian decathlon champion in the '80's TV series PHYL AND MIKHY (and is now an answer in TV Trivial Pursuit...you're welcome.)

Murphy has completed 101, 201 and 301 Improv classes at UCB and is looking forward to 401 and is probably the oldest person ever to do so! She studied acting with Alan Langdon at Circle in the Square, at the Warren Robertson Studio and at HB Studios. Murphy loves being creative, whether performing, directing, choreographing, producing or gardening.
